Common Questions About COVID-19

There is currently a resurgence of COVID-19 throughout the United States.  Understanding that many of you are anxious and uncertain about COVID-19 facts and information, our goal is to address some of your key and frequently asked questions here on The Journal.

DOES WELLNESS FIRST PREFER ONE VACCINE OVER ANOTHER?

Wellness First does not have a preference on a particular vaccine. However, studies have demonstrated a difference in efficacy between the three vaccines.  Here are the primary differences:

Pfizer: two-dose mRNA series with 97% efficacy against severe disease.

Moderna: two-dose mRNA series with 95% efficacy against severe disease.

Janssen/J&J: one-dose viral vector vaccine with 66% efficacy against COVID-19.

ARE THERE PREVENTATIVE OPTIONS FOR COVID-19?

Though the data is limited and somewhat controversial, there are some studies that show prophylactic doses of ivermectin is protective against COVID-19 infection.  We also know a balanced immune system is vital to protecting you against viral illnesses in general.  Wellness First offers an integrative, preventative approach that includes diet, nutraceuticals, IV nutrient therapy and others should this be something you want to discuss and/or pursue.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO COVID-19 (EVEN IF I AM VACCINATED)?

If a vaccinated person is exposed to COVID-19, they should test in 3-5 days and wear a mask for 14 days to reduce transmission to others.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO COVID-19 OR HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS?

If you become ill, you will need to quarantine for 10 days. You should be under a medical practitioner’s care to monitor you for fever, shortness of breath and low oxygen levels.  We recommend you get a pulse oximeter so you can monitor your oxygen at home.  Treatment is varied according to severity of disease and may include steroids.  If your oxygen levels are consistently low, you may need to be admitted to the hospital to receive IV treatments, including remdesivir.

WHERE DO I GET TESTED?

Wellness First is offering rapid tests for patient members who may have been exposed to COVID-19, and swab testing for patient members who are traveling. Please call the office at (561) 491-4666 to make an appointment.  For non-members, you may visit Jupiter Medical Center, as well as your local CVS, Walgreens or Urgent Care center for testing.

WHERE DO I GET VACCINATED?

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOLLOWING THE VACCINATION?

The most common symptoms after vaccination include fatigue, low-grade fever, body aches and chills.  Pain and redness at the injection site is also common.  Most of these symptoms occur within 8-12 hours and resolve within 24-36 hours.

WHAT DO I DO IF I AM EXPERIENCING LONG-TERM COVID-19 SYMPTOMS?

If you are still experiencing symptoms weeks or months post-COVID-19 infection, you should contact your medical practitioner immediately.  There are treatment options that can be explored to get you back into balance and feeling better.

IF I HAVE BEEN VACCINATED, CAN I STILL GET COVID-19?

Yes. Vaccines are not 100% protective. However, they have shown to prevent more serious complications from COVID-19 and thus, the number of people requiring hospitalization.

We also encourage you to continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently, get vaccinated (if you are not already), maintain your supplement regimen, and eat healthy.  This is the best path to safety for all.

To your wellness,
